Much has changed in the plot in relation to the story, abandoning many of the dramatic lines and turns, Abuladze managed to keep a picture of a lyrical, gentle humor tinged tonality - major stylistic feature story Nodar Dumbadze has saved touching episodes of plaque sentimentality and drama picked up the tragic intensity. In the film, an organic blend the tragic, epic and the comic started. After a characteristic feature of everyday life, bright and juicy language characters Abuladze deeply revealed the national character of its people. Action limited outskirts of the village of Guria and only briefly transferred to Tbilisi, just a few characters - a grandmother, in whose care is Zuriko, the same who in the credits marked pronoun "I" and whose name is in the film story, the neighbors-old Iliko and Hilarion, voluntarily taken upon themselves the joy and responsibility of educating and forming Zurikely, his girlfriend Mary, his fellow villagers, a schoolteacher.
